The ABA journal, read by half the nation’s million lawyers, covers the trends and people in law practice from Wall Street to Main Street. It’s a magazine that lawyers fan out and keep on their desks.

The ABA Journal is the flagship publication of the American Bar Association, with a monthly circulation of 1 million. A full-featured website and several e-newsletters complement the magazine. It covers the legal profession’s latest trends, people, and finances from Wall Street to Main Street to Pennsylvania Avenue. HeinOnline’s ABA Law Library Collection Periodicals database features all current and historical issues of the journal, as well as 44 titles that were previously only available to ABA members through their section publications.

John Tarpley is a partner at Lewis King and practices in tort, product liability, and a wide range of insurance-related matters in state and federal courts. He regularly defends trucking companies and their employees in trial and at mediations in Tennessee and nationwide. He also represents businesses in various commercial/casualty disputes and is certified as a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 mediator.

During his undergraduate and medical school years at Vanderbilt University, Tarpley worked in a tertiary care mission hospital in Ogbomoso, Nigeria, where he directed the training for general surgery residents and helped establish a nursing school. He later served as Program Director for General Surgery at the Nashville VA MC and Vanderbilt University from 1993 to 2016.

The 1964 decision in New York Times v. Sullivan protected the civil rights movement from attacks on its leaders and set a standard for determining whether a plaintiff’s speech was defamatory. Since then, the First Amendment has evolved to include several exceptions. Despite these changes, the principle of actual malice remains at the core of libel law.

Dana Montalto shares how she got involved in veterans’ legal services and discusses common questions that lawyers have when considering pro bono work in this area. He joined the ABA Journal staff as managing editor in 2007 and was named editor-in-chief in October 2011. He previously worked at the Dallas Morning News, where he served as a reporter, special projects editor, and U.S. Supreme Court correspondent. One of his signature projects was a study of 14,000 Dallas County jurors that revealed significant bias in the jury system. He holds a B.A. from Davidson College in North Carolina and attended the University of Texas at Dallas.

Courteney Bass Cox is an American actress, director, and producer best known for her role as Monica Geller on the NBC sitcom Friends. She has also appeared in several film franchises and television shows. She was nominated for a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award for her work on the show. Cox is also a successful businesswoman and has launched her line of home care products.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Cox was a model before she started her acting career. She began with a minor role in Family Ties (1982). After a string of unmemorable movies, Cox found her big break in 1994 when she was cast as the titular character in the famous sitcom Friends. She became a household name and earned an American Comedy Award nomination for her work on the show.

After the end of the Central Perk era, Cox starred in several other television and film projects. In 2007, she starred in the FX series Dirt as Lucy Spiller, a cynical tabloid editor. She and her then-husband, David Arquette, were the series’ executive producers. Cox also starred in the comedy film Bedtime Stories, reuniting her with Adam Sandler.

Cox was married to actor David Arquette from 1999 until their divorce in 2013. They have one daughter together, Coco. Cox is currently dating Johnny McDaid, an Irish band Snow Patrol member.

Outside of acting, Cox is an advocate for people with disabilities. She has visited schools and communities to speak about the importance of access for people with visual impairments. She is also involved with the advocacy group Disability Rights Advocates, which recently filed a lawsuit against the electronic library Scribd on behalf of the National Federation of the Blind.
