What Are the Most Important Specs when Picking a Gaming Laptop?

Finding a great gaming laptop is not as straightforward as many people imagine. You can’t just pick the computer with the most powerful processor and assume it will be good for gaming. Computer manufacturers know that many people don’t know how to pick a gaming laptop and will play with the specs to make them look more impressive than they are. That’s why you must know what to concentrate on before starting shopping. Let’s look at the most important specs to look at when picking a gaming laptop.

The GPU

The GPU, or graphics card, is the first thing you should consider when picking a gaming laptop. We put it over the processor because you’ll never see a laptop being sold with a high-quality card and a processor that can’t handle it. So, if there’s a single thing you should look for, it’s the graphics card.

Here, you have to get familiar with the different manufacturers and cards. Many people make cards, but there are only two manufacturers you have to worry about: AMD and Nvidia. Nvidia makes most of the lower tier and mid-tier cards but has great top-level cards too. AMD, on the other hand, is known for its premium cards.

If you’re looking for something that will be perfect for most games without breaking the bank, you have to look at mid-tier cards. Going for an overpowered card is usually a waste since games aren’t made with the chosen few who can afford them. So, look for a machine with someone like an NVIDIA GeForce 30 card, and you should be alright. If you’re looking for an AMD card, go for something in their RX 6000 series.

The CPU

The CPU should be the second thing on your list, but you shouldn’t obsess over power here. Any CPU with a clock speed of over 2ghz with 4 to 6 cores will be more than enough to handle most games.

The GPU is what will be carrying most of the load here. Of course, we would recommend something more powerful if you want to do things outside of gaming, like graphic design and video editing, but a middle-of-the-road processor should work just fine.

RAM and Storage

RAM and storage will affect the fluidity of games. Lousy RAM will make games look choppy, and you’ll experience freezes and lost frames. Storage will also affect how fast information is displayed on the screen and frame rates.

The Operating System

Many people don’t think about the OS when picking a gaming machine, but it’s essential. Chromebooks, for instance, are not the best for gaming because of the rigid OS. Windows 11 gaming laptops remain the best if you’re looking for something that will work straight out of the box. What makes them even more remarkable is that you’ll be able to swap the OS for something more flexible like Linux later.

These are the top specs to look for when picking a gaming laptop. If you want to make the best decision, we suggest studying the main computer components; this could come in handy when buying any machine.
