NEW YORK (Reuters) – A U.S. decide on Friday dismissed an indictment in opposition to Meng Wanzhou, the chief monetary officer of Huawei Applied sciences Co, formally ending a legal sanctions case that strained U.S.-China relations.

Meng, whose father Ren Zhengfei based Huawei and is the telecommunications firm’s chief government, entered an settlement with U.S. prosecutors final yr for the case to be dismissed 4 years after her December 2018 arrest.

Prosecutors accused Meng of financial institution fraud and different crimes for deceptive HSBC Holdings Plc (LON:) and different banks about Huawei’s relationship with an organization that operated in Iran.

They stated Meng’s actions put banks susceptible to penalties for processing transactions that violated U.S. sanctions.
