MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian International Minister Sergei Lavrov instructed his Iranian counterpart on Wednesday that Western media had launched a marketing campaign that might set off escalation within the Gulf, his ministry stated.
In a phone name with Hossein Amirabdollahian, Lavrov commented on “the harmfulness of the data marketing campaign that has been launched by Western media”, the ministry stated in an announcement summarising his remarks.
Lavrov instructed Amirabdollahian that such actions might end in a harmful escalation of stress within the strategically vital area, the ministry added.
Washington expressed concern on Tuesday about unspecified threats from Iran towards Saudi Arabia and stated it could not hesitate to reply if needed.
The Wall Avenue Journal reported that Saudi Arabia had shared intelligence with the US warning of an imminent assault from Iran on targets within the kingdom.
“The report revealed within the Wall Avenue Journal about planning assaults towards one of many nations within the area is baseless,” Iran’s Mission to the United Nations stated in an announcement.
Iran “reiterates its coverage of peaceable neighborliness with its neighbors primarily based on mutual respect and in line with worldwide rules and guidelines,” it stated.
