Based on Susanna’s Seven Husbands

Based on a true story, Based on Susanna’s Seven Husbands is a love story about a woman’s search for a husband. The novel follows Susanna Vronsky, the fourth wife of a Russian spy who lives a double life. Although she initially rejects Nikolai’s marriage proposal, she eventually agrees. They have a son, Arun, who travels to Russia to finish his education. Arun regrets sending pictures of Nikolai to his mother and feels he has some responsibility for Nikolai’s death. Susanna denies her husband is a spy and believes she has nothing to do with it.

While Susanna had many husbands throughout her life, her most important relationship with her husband was with her mother. Though her first six husbands married other people, she remained in love with her first husband. Throughout the movie, Susanna hides her husband’s cell phone in various places. She reacted positively, as she tolerated the fact that her husband was addicted to his cell phone.

While Bond tries to give Susanna a sympathetic portrayal, she also points out the power of gossip. It can overshadow a person’s life and be driven by jealousy. Bond also makes the case that Susanna was a woman before her time and may have felt pressured to marry because of her culture’s standards. However, her husbands were not men of financial substance.

In the movie, the love interest of Susanna’s first husband is shown in the form of a choir boy. A new husband is a handsome man, Major Hari Mehta, who was seen at a funeral, tries to seduce Susanna and eventually becomes her guardian. The film also highlights the power of friendship and family in human relationships.

While the film does have black humor, it is also a sweet romantic film. Some scenes might be uncomfortable to watch for some viewers. The movie also has some over-the-top characters that might work on the stage. Some of the husbands might make an excellent laugh riot.
