WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence stated he wouldn’t testify earlier than the Home of Representatives panel probing the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol as a result of Congress “has no proper to my testimony.”
In an interview with CBS Information, Pence stated it might set up a “horrible precedent for the Congress to summon a vice chairman of the US to talk about deliberations that came about on the White Home.”
In high-profile hearings, the Home panel has highlighted Pence’s refusal to associate with former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn his defeat to Democrat Joe Biden within the 2020 presidential election.
Pence had to enter hiding for hours when Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 in an unsuccessful effort to stop Congress from certifying Biden’s victory.
Pence, a possible Republican presidential candidate, writes about these occasions in a e book launched on Tuesday, and several other of his former staffers have offered testimony to the committee.
Pence, nonetheless, stated he wouldn’t cooperate voluntarily.
“I am closing the door on that,” he stated.
