Beryl was born in Nottingham, England, on December 3, 1929, and immigrated with her family to Australia in 1950. Beryl was an elegant yet gentle lady who never complained but lived her life fully – having strong faith and an intimate love for God that earned her admiration from her friends and family alike. Beryl devoted herself to raising her grandchildren with great dedication as a fantastic artist, painting and sculpting beautifully throughout their childhood years and well into adulthood. All will dearly miss Beryl.

April Haygood was a native of Greenwood County who passed away on May 27, 2023. She was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and worked as a homemaker. April is survived by three of her four children – Linda Ann Camper, Rose Marie Baker, and Willie Earl Baker as well as daughter-in-law Cindy Baker; four sisters (Barbara Jean Williams, Mary Frances Griffin, Joann Callaham, and Janie Bell Callaham); eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was a proud retiree of South Central Bell and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, in addition to being an amateur radio operator and pilot. Additionally, he proudly belonged to the Greatest Generation as an Army Marine who saw service during WWII on Guadalcanal.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Knigge; one son, George Knigge of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. John Balzer from Schulenburg and Frances Frierson from Bristol, Oklahoma; three sisters, Mrs R T Huettel, Emmie Allison and Alice Haygood (all from Menard), as well as eight grandchildren. Both his parents and a brother preceded him in death. A memorial service will take place Friday at 1 pm at Canton Funeral Home.

Thuy Thanh Tran, 17, a student at Francisco Bravo Medical Magnet High School in Boyle Heights, was pulled from the water after being caught by a powerful rip current during a beach cleanup event on Saturday. Swept out to sea by this powerful current, she nearly drowned while helping clean up along with friends until lifeguards intervened and saved her from drowning.
