LONDON (Reuters) -Robbie Coltrane, the larger-than-life Scottish-born actor who performed Hagrid within the Harry Potter movies, has died on the age of 72, his agent mentioned on Friday.
Coltrane’s greater than four-decade-long profession ranged from James Bond movie roles to the lead within the Nineties British TV collection “Cracker”, as prison psychologist Dr. Edward ‘Fitz’ Fitzgerald.
His agent Belinda Wright mentioned he had died in hospital close to Falkirk in Scotland, Britain’s PA Media reported.
Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, led the tributes on Twitter: “Very unhappy information. He had such vary and depth as an actor, from sensible comedy to hard-edged drama.
“I feel my favorite of all his roles was Fitz in Cracker. Robbie Coltrane, Scottish leisure legend – you’ll be massively missed. RIP”
British actor and broadcaster Stephen Fry – who narrated the British model of the Harry Potter audio books – wrote that he had met Coltrane virtually precisely 40 years in the past.
“I used to be awe/terror/love struck all on the similar time. Such depth, energy & expertise: humorous sufficient to trigger helpless hiccups & honking as we made our first TV present, “Alfresco”. Farewell, outdated fellow. You’ll be so dreadfully missed”.
