Awards season is heating up. Earier this week, nominations for the Critics Selection Documentary Awards dropped and now The Cinema Eye Honors is asserting its first spherical of noms for doc movies and sequence.
5 titles are nominated for Broadcast Movie, and two are helmed by girls: “Downfall: The Case Towards Boeing,” Rory Kennedy’s investigation into the world’s largest aerospace firm, and “Taking part in with Sharks,” Sally Aitken’s tribute to marine conservationist Valerie Taylor.
Of six nominees for Nonfiction Sequence, 4 are directed or co-directed by girls. Titles within the operating embrace “Black and Lacking,” Geeta Gandbhir and Samantha Knowles’ exploration of how systemic racism impacts lacking individuals instances, and one other look contained in the legal justice system, “Thoughts Over Homicide,” Nanfu Wang’s portrait of the Beatrice Six, who had been convicted within the rape and homicide of Helen Wilson and later exonerated by DNA proof. Additionally up for honors are Rachel Dretzin’s “Maintain Candy: Pray and Obey” and Julia Willoughby Nason and Jenner Furst’s “LulaRich.” The previous tells the story of Warren Jeffs and the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the latter pulls again the curtain on LuLaRoe’s clothes empire.
