Celebrate Plover With a Splash Pad, Walking Trails and More

Lake Pacawa Park will soon see renovations, including a splash pad, walking trails, and other improvements as part of a $4.2 million revamp, according to village officials. Celebrate Plover is set to showcase this project.

Village leaders unveiled Lake Pacawa Splash & Play in July, featuring interactive water features and a playground designed for children of all abilities.

Fishing

Lake Pacawa Park provides visitors with an exciting range of outdoor activities to enjoy, such as beach and Splash Pad use, picnicking, and scenic hiking trail exploration. Other popular attractions in this park include the Wisconsin Korean War Veterans Memorial and Heritage Park Historical Village – two additional popular destinations that visitors enjoy while at this park.

Lake Pacawa Park at 1831 Maple Drive offers recreational activities suitable for people of all ages. Amenities include a bandshell, walking trails, pavilion shelters, restrooms, an ADA-accessible fishing pier with boat launch, parking, and beach improvements, as well as hosting Cops-n-Bobbers events to help children discover fishing while providing them with opportunities to interact with law enforcement officers.

This year, Plover has undertaken an ambitious project to upgrade Lake Pacawa Park. Due to be finished by 2023, renovations will include new amenities and a paved path surrounding the lake, funded in part by donations from local business owner Worzella & Sons as well as DNR grants.

Lake Pacawa, with 23 acres, boasts an array of fish species, such as largemouth bass, perch, rock bass, northern pike, and bream/bluegill. Anglers can practice their skills or relax here with family and friends; birdwatching enthusiasts will find plenty of opportunities here, too! Its shorelines offer scenic walks.

Lake Pacawa Park in Wisconsin is a favorite among RV campers and other visitors, boasting numerous RV sites with amenities such as showers and laundry services; additionally, this park features playground equipment and basketball courts for visitors.

There is also a public boat ramp on the north side of the park where visitors can launch paddle boats for rental through the Park Office. This facility is open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Picnic Areas

Park amenities include picnic areas with tables and charcoal grills for use, as well as rentals of pavilions that have an event space complete with a kitchenette, restrooms, and more. There are also designated first-come, first-served picnic areas that do not require reservations – these are open for picnicking, but alcohol cannot be brought inside; no pets are permitted within parks.

Lake Pacawa, with 23 acres, is a favorite with anglers. Fish for largemouth bass, rock bass, perch pumpkinseed walleye crappie bream/bluegill, and northern pike from shore or by boat; motor trolling with up to three hooks baits or lures is permitted.

Village Administrator Dan Mahoney hopes these additions will attract visitors and seeks a Department of Natural Resources stewardship grant in order to fund these improvements.

Lake Park used to be an attraction but has recently experienced a decline. Now, however, Plover plans on revitalizing it and making it a destination spot for both residents and visitors from surrounding communities.

At 1831 Maple Drive in Plover, this park features a bandshell, walking trails, and a pavilion shelter with concessions, piers, and beach improvements. Lake Pacawa Splash & Play opened last July and closed September 1 – fully complying with ADA compliance. In addition, paved walking trails connect Green Circle Trail from Stevens Point with Tomorrow River State Trail at Mainland Meadows, as well as crushed granite Whiting Crossing Trail for added accessibility.

Playgrounds

Lake Pacawa Park boasts a playground suitable for children of all ages at Lake Pacawa park. This playground includes many activities appropriate for young children, such as slides and rocking animals, as well as a water feature where kids can splash around safely. Emily and Eric Krug, residents of Plover, worked to transform Lake Pacawa Park in Plover into an all-inclusive park. Emily’s daughter was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, leading her parents to discover all-inclusive parks while visiting various cities as inspiration – they realized Plover could use such a facility!

Following an impressive fundraising campaign, the village was able to implement an inclusive Splash and Play area, a new band shell, ADA-accessible kayak launches, and fishing piers, walking trails that wrap all the way around Lake Plover, additional parking, and a new shelter – just in time for Celebrate Plover event this summer.

Phase Two of Lake Pacawa Park renovation in Plover is currently in the works, which will include a splash pad, playground equipment, walking trails that encircle Lake Pacawa, and more. A grant application to fund this project is underway as well; village administrator Dan Mahoney believes that the completed project will become a tremendous draw to nearby communities.

Shelters

The park features a large picnic area equipped with charcoal grills, modular play equipment such as swing sets and rocking animals, shoreline benches, and two T-ball diamonds, as well as the Wisconsin Korean War Veterans Memorial and Lake Pacawa Observation Deck. A paved multi-use trail surrounding the lake allows easy access to its waters from dawn until dusk. Furthermore, there is the Worzella Family Shelter Rental at 3410 Hoover Avenue Plover, WI 54952, available for reservation from last Friday in April until the third Sunday of October at $60 per day plus park use permit fees and park use permit costs of course!

Emily and Eric Krug are dedicated to creating an all-inclusive park that welcomes individuals of all abilities to experience nature safely and comfortably. After their daughter was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, the couple started traveling around to various all-inclusive parks around the country to see what might work in their community.

Together with the Village of Plover, they collaborated to transform Lake Pacawa Park into an all-inclusive venue where families and people of all ages and abilities could come together.

In addition to a 6,000-square-foot inclusive Splash and Play area, this $4 million park overhaul features accessible kayak launches and fishing piers, new walking paths, additional parking, a shelter, and enhancements of water and beach quality. These improvements were made possible thanks to a generous land donation from the community as well as an anticipated Department of Natural Resources Stewardship grant.

The Village of Plover and Celebrate Plover Foundation have initiated a fundraising campaign for Phase Two of the Lake Pacawa Park Improvements project, which is expected to commence in spring 2021 and finish in fall 2022. According to Village Administrator Dan Mahoney, its resultant transformation will make an impressionful statement in Central Wisconsin while drawing visitors from surrounding cities.
