After years as nuclear powerhouse, France makes play in offshore wind

A facility described as “France’s first commercial-scale offshore wind mission” is absolutely operational, multinational utility EDF stated this week.

In an announcement Wednesday, EDF stated the 480-megawatt Saint-Nazaire Offshore Wind Farm would assist to “assist the French State’s power transition targets, which embody targets to generate 32% of its power from renewable sources by 2030.” EDF’s majority shareholder is the French state.

Positioned in waters off the south west coast of France, the Saint-Nazaire mission consists of 80 generators. Its first electrical energy was generated in June 2022.
