Drunkenness can lead to some shockingly irresponsible acts. But one thief in New Zealand went too far and was apprehended by police.

Royal Oak resident Chris Weeg’s pickup truck was stolen from outside of Meijer in Royal Oak, and they spotted it driving away into an adjacent parking lot. He used his work cellphone to ping it, track its movements to Holly, about 40 miles away, and recover his property.

1. A drunk thief bought a car

An alcohol-induced car thief attempted to steal one but was prevented by an ignition interlock system installed after getting charged with drunk driving. The procedure takes photos every time someone blows into it to start the vehicle – this time, though, the design caught him red-handed in his attempt at theft.

Royal Oak police believe they have apprehended a suspect who stole his pickup truck outside a Meijer store. After realizing it was gone, its owner immediately called the police using his work cell phone to track its whereabouts; eventually, it pinged near Long Lake and Crooks roads in Troy.

The phone’s owner tracked its signal, leading him to a road where he found Windsor man walking bloodied along its side. According to police reports, Windsor told them he got drunk, stole the car, and crashed it into a light pole before turning himself over for arrest.

3. A drunk thief bought a house

On Monday morning (Jan 23), while its owners slept, a 41-year-old burglar broke into a home in Bahau, Negeri Sembilan. While gathering his loot, the 41-year-old found some alcohol that quickly escalated to full-on binging – passing out in the living room as his owner awoke and called the police. Cops arrived and were shocked to find him still unconscious – they gently shook him awake before taking him away for further investigation; next to him, they found two knives, screwdrivers, two bottles of liquor, plus a tablet PC.
