LONDON — BYD on Wednesday obtained a coveted five-star Euro NCAP security ranking for its electrical ATTO 3 crossover SUV, the newest Chinese language carmaker to obtain high marks because it seeks to achieve a foothold in Europe’s aggressive automobile market.

Two different Chinese language-made automobiles — the eCitroën C5 X, constructed by a three way partnership between Stellantis and Dongfeng and the Mobilize Limo, an electrical sedan made by Renault along with Jiangling Motors — obtained four-star rankings.

Scores from the European New Automobile Evaluation Program (NCAP) aren’t binding, because it doesn’t certify autos for highway use. However European customers take note of Euro NCAP’s security exams, and carmakers aggressively market good rankings.

Final month Chinese language rival Nice Wall Motor obtained five-star rankings for its WEY model Espresso 01 hybrid SUV and its ORA model Funky Cat electrical sedan (respectively, beneath).

Simply this week BYD launched the ATTO 3 in India, which sells in China because the Yuan Plus.

Final week, German automobile rental firm Sixt mentioned it has dedicated to purchasing round 100,000 electrical autos from China’s BYD within the coming years.

Among the many different automobiles receiving a five-star ranking on Wednesday was Mercedes-Benz’s EQE electrical sedan (beneath).

The EQE’s driver help system — together with one which strikes the automobile to the slowest lane on a freeway and brings it to a halt if the driving force turns into unresponsive — made it the highest-scoring automobile to this point for assisted-driving capabilities, Euro NCAP mentioned.
