Wonder & Wickedness Review

4

Wonder & Wickedness’ unique approach to education lies in its level-free spell system, which encourages players to draw their moral choices from narratively created value systems.

Anyone interested in storytelling games should consider picking this one from Possum Creek Games; its PDF costs $20, while its softcover bundle costs $30.

Gameplay

Wickedness is a storytelling game in which players form a coven of three magical archetypes and attempt to balance their magical realm with everyday reality. They will face many trials and sacrifices as they try to protect each other and, ultimately, themselves from threats of darkness and death.

Unique to this game is its use of a custom tarot card system to generate plot elements and conflicts, as well as tasks and dilemmas that force witches to react to move their story along. As a result, players experience an exciting narrative over just one session!

Wickedness features not only an extensive tarot deck but also an innovative level-free spell system with an ethos-driven level-free spell system, giving each school of magic its personality and potential long-term effects – such as necromancy’s possible long-term consequences in our world – providing it with more depth than its OD&D roots would suggest.

Ideally, this game works best with players who enjoy creating stories as they go along. A tarot deck provides some plot hooks but isn’t enough to tell an entire tale; additionally, players who are comfortable GMing should play.

Rules

Are you searching for an unconventional way to play King of Tokyo? Look no further! This collector’s edition offers all you need for an engaging game experience: 10 Wickedness tiles on a Wickedness board and 15 monster counters representing every monster from the base game are included! During play, progress can be tracked via the Wickedness Gauge by moving Monster counters across the board; when one reaches 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock, or 10 o’clock spaces, one may take one tile from the available selection.

Wonder & Wickedness is a digest-sized volume featuring several pages of rules describing an exciting take on magic. Instead of the more conventional Vancian approach to spell levels, Wonder & Wickedness presents modular rules for learning and casting magical spells – perfect for an old-school-inspired game and those using more standard power-level procedures. Packed with valuable ideas and high-quality content (from magic items to casting ethos and space rock descriptions), Wonder & Wickedness will provide plenty of material for any GM to draw from!

Players must think creatively and collaborate to overcome challenging barriers because this is a storytelling game. Additionally, this game explores complex topics like queer identity and community – making it an excellent option for anyone wanting to examine these subjects further. This game is available for $20 in pdf form from Possum Creek Games; softcover versions cost $30.

Character creation

Wickedness makes character creation fun and easy! Players have numerous options available when creating their character, including various aspects they should choose. There are some key considerations when making a selection – such as not adding something that conflicts with something your character already knows (which could cause significant issues throughout the game) as this could create unintended contradictions in play; also keep in mind that any aspect can be changed later should it prove undesirable; if stuck consider using Quick Character Creation rules.

In this game, a witch coven confronts great dangers but must decide how far they will go to defend their world. Tarot cards play an integral part in plot elements, conflicts, and tasks: through them, we determine which celestial body each witch dedicates herself to (sun, moon, or stars) and which school of magic they prefer.

After selecting two critical aspects for their character, players should choose a name and their chosen magic spell, along with whether or not they prefer hunting or healing. At this stage, they should also establish starting stats and what equipment their characters possess; providing this data allows the GM to assess better how much stress or consequences their character will encounter throughout the story.

Setting

Wonder & Wickedness is an exciting supplement that attempts to bring magic back into the game world by decoding modern gaming magic systems, which have stripped it of much of its mystery and wonder. At 100 pages long and covering only basic spell mechanics and equipment it provides an exciting return of this powerful force in most role-playing games.

The gameplay centers on a coven of witches who must balance mundane life and an underground realm filled with dangerous magical forces. Their quest requires immense sacrifices that affect both themselves and those they ally with; moreover, there may even be threats against their refuge and to magic itself!

Wonder & Wickedness’ world is one where magic cannot easily be controlled or harnessed; even minor mistakes or inadvertent activations of spells can throw it off track and activate them unknowingly. Episodes range from classics like those from OD&D Brown Booklet Number 1 (Men and Magic) to novel creations such as creating tell spells to force another creature to answer two questions honestly (something straight out of Brown Booklet 1-Men and Magic), all the way to spell descriptions that provide adventure hooks as well.
