Lexington Market

Lexington Market is America’s oldest continuously running public market and one of Baltimore’s top tourist attractions. Here, city workers can grab breakfast, University of Maryland students take coffee breaks, and tourists browse local wares.

Since 1782, farmers from Towson and Reisterstown would pack their horse-drawn wagons with goods such as ham, butter and eggs for the market. Watermen brought in their catch from the Chesapeake Bay to this area too, using the market as an essential hub to connect to nature.

After a fire in 1949, the market underwent extensive redevelopment. It now houses stalls selling fresh produce as well as specialty vendors.
