Democratic nominee Katie Hobbs gained the race for governor of Arizona, NBC Information projected on Monday night.

Hobbs, who’s Arizona’s secretary of state, defeated Republican nominee Kari Lake, a former tv information anchor who turned a number one denier of the legitimacy of the end result of the 2020 presidential election.

With 97% of the projected vote in, Hobbs had 50.4% of the vote, in comparison with 49.6% for Lake.

Hobbs ran a low-key marketing campaign towards Lake and refused to debate her, saying she didn’t wish to give the GOP nominee the chance to unfold conspiracy theories.

She accused Lake of being “solely occupied with making a spectacle.”

Lake in flip referred to as Hobbs a “coward” for not debating.

Arizona was an important battleground state within the 2020 presidential election. Former President Donald Trump, who backed Lake’s candidacy, misplaced the state and the nationwide vote to President Joe Biden.

Hobbs defended Arizona’s election system towards efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the outcomes there.

Lake in an interview with CNN final month repeatedly refused to say she would settle for the outcomes of the election for governor if she misplaced.

Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, who has grow to be a pariah amongst many Republicans due to her harsh criticism of Trump, had urged Arizonans to not vote for Lake in a tv advert funded by Cheney’s political motion committee at a price of $500,000.

On Oct. 28, Lake tweeted, “Thanks, @Liz_Cheney,” and hooked up a letter that stated that her marketing campaign staff anticipated the advert to “add one other 10 factors to our lead.”

Cheney on Monday evening fired again with a tweet reply to Lake: “You are welcome, @KariLake.”

Hobbs in an announcement Monday stated, “I wish to thank the voters for entrusting me with this immense accountability. It’s actually an honor of a lifetime, and I’ll do all the pieces in my energy to make you proud,”

“For the Arizonans who didn’t vote for me, I’ll work simply as exhausting for you -because even on this second of division, I imagine there’s a lot extra that connects us,” she stated.
