‘Triangle of Unhappiness,’ ‘Holy Spider’ Lead European Movie Awards Race

“Triangle of Unhappiness,” directed by Ruben Östlund, and “Holy Spider,” directed by Ali Abbasi, lead the European Movie Awards nominations in main classes.

“Triangle of Unhappiness,” “Holy Spider,” “Alcarràs,” “Shut” and “Corsage” vie for greatest European movie.

These contesting for greatest director are Lukas Dhont for “Shut,” Marie Kreutzer for “Corsage,” Jerzy Skolimowski for “EO,” Abbasi for “Holy Spider,” Alice Diop for “Saint Omer” and Östlund for “Triangle of Unhappiness.”

Nominated for European Screenwriter are “Alcarràs” scribes Carla Simón and Arnau Vilaró, Kenneth Branagh for “Belfast,” Dhont and Angelo Tijssens for “Shut,” Abbasi and Afshin Kamran Bahrami for “Holy Spider,” and Östlund for “Triangle of Unhappiness.”

European Actress nominees are Vicky Krieps in “Corsage,” Zar Amir Ebrahimi in “Holy Spider,” Léa Seydoux in “One Tremendous Morning,” Penélope Cruz for “Parallel Moms” and Meltem Kaptan in “Rabiye Kurnaz Vs. George W. Bush.”

The European Actor race is between Paul Mescal in “Aftersun,” Eden Dambrine in “Shut,” Elliott Crosset Hove in “Godland,” Pierfrancesco Favino in “Nostalgia” and Zlatko Burić in “Triangle of Unhappiness.”

European Documentary nominees are “A Home Made from Splinters,” “Woman Gang,” “Mariupolis 2,” “The Balcony Film” and “The March on Rome.”

The awards are voted for by the 4,400 members of the European Movie Academy. The awards ceremony takes place on Dec. 10 in Reykjavík, Iceland.

The European Discovery Award is contested by “107 Moms,” “Love In keeping with Dalva,” “Different Folks,” “Pamfir,” “Small Physique” and “Sonne.” A committee composed of members of critics federation FIPRESCI and consultants appointed by the European Movie Academy selects the winner.

The winners of the Excellence Awards within the classes for European Cinematography, Modifying, Manufacturing Design, Costume Design, Make-up & Hair, Unique Rating, Sound and Visible Results will probably be decided by an eight-member jury consisting of representatives of the completely different arts and crafts and will probably be introduced on Nov. 23.

The winners of the awards for European Lifetime Achievement, the European Achievement in World Cinema and the European Modern Storytelling have already been introduced and will probably be honored in Reykjavík.
